Business Coaching isn’t just about your business…
Every coach does things slightly differently and sometimes I like to reflect on what it is that I do that make me different from other Business Coaches. Obviously, I can’t claim to know the ins and outs of what they all do, but what I can do, is give you a bit more insight into the way I do things with my clients. One of my clients summed it up for me really nicely this morning. She said “What I value about this relationship is that it isn’t just about the business, it’s about me too”.
This is the way I have always worked with my Business Coaching clients. Probably in part because I also offer stand alone personal coaching, so my skills are also very much suited to helping with personal growth. But when it comes to business, especially small business, YOU really matter. You can’t really separate the two (unless that’s what you are trying to do, but that’s a whole other conversation!) Your business impacts you and you impact your business. How could it be any other way?
For me, supporting a business isn’t about helping them smash growth target after growth target (although lots of my clients do that) it’s about supporting the person running the business, through thick and thin. Businesses go through tough times, as do people. We all want to feel nurtured, supported and connected. When life is throwing us lemons (I hate that expression as lemons are blimming brilliant, tasty and hugely detoxifying food, but let’s go with it) most of us want someone there to go “this is a bit shit innit, are you okay?” And only then to help us dust ourselves off and have a look at how we can move forward. The idea of being a coach who is solely focussed on smashing targets and completing actions that are expected to help with those targets and not excepting any excuses, just doesn’t fit with me. My natural way is to be compassionate, to see the person including their struggles and suffering and to help them remember who they are and what they are capable of.
The Compassionate Business Coach
That about sums it up. So yes, of course I can help with all the practical stuff, like business plans, sales and marketing strategies, standard operating procedures, leadership training and the like. My main service is actually ongoing generic practical business support, delivered with compassion. Most of my clients have been onboard for some time and we speak monthly-ish. Many treat me like a member of their team and bring me into conversations with other colleagues at times. I love what I do and if this sounds like something you might love to incorporate into your business, then I’d love to speak to you! There are no contracts or retainers, just a session by session commitment, that’s all. I look forward to hearing from you.
