Growth Mindset Vs Fixed Mindset

And the grey area in between...

If you’ve heard of Growth Mindset Vs Fixed Mindset, you have most likely come across it presented in a binary way.  As though people are either one or the other and it is a simple choice as to which.
However, I believe that most of us are somewhere in the middle.  Believing or deciding we have a Growth Mindset, but being sabotaged by unconscious patterns that will stop us from following things all the way through.  Read on to find out what I mean.

Growth Mindset Vs Fixed Mindset

Let's explore a few of these

CHALLENGES
Someone who has a Growth Mindset enjoys challenge and someone who has a Fixed Mindset avoids challenges.  But what about the person who takes on challenges, gives them everything for a while, but then the results aren’t quite as forthcoming as they had hoped, their inner critic pipes up, or their inner voice of “This is a waste or time, don’t throw good energy after bad” steps in and they then give up on the challenge?  What do they have, a growth mindset, or a fixed mindset?
FEEDBACK
A person with a Growth Mindset seeks feedback and someone who has a Fixed Mindset rejects or ignores feedback.  But what about the person who seeks feedback, but then feels a little uncomfortable with the feedback that they get.  Not quite believing the good feedback, or worries that the constructive feedback means that they just aren’t good enough.  What do they have?
INSPIRED BY OTHERS
A person with a growth mindset is inspired by the success of others, and a fixed mindset feels threatened by the success of others.  But what about the person who looks up to others as role models, but feels an uncomfortable niggle that they aren’t quite capable of the success that the person they look up to has achieved?
As you can see, it isn’t quite as straight forward as just deciding to have a growth mindset, or just setting out to do the behaviour which is connected with a growth mindset.  Most of us are operating with conditioned habits running the show.

For someone who really wants to embrace a growth mindset, the most important learning is this:
There are parts of you that will try to sabotage your efforts, make you believe that you aren’t capable of what you are trying to do and possibly even that you just inherently aren’t good enough.  There is value in leaning in to these parts of you, to work with them, getting to know and understanding them so that you can work with them to create real sustainable change.
If you deny the existence of these parts of you, or believe that you just need to get a bit of grit etc, then they will keep manifesting in other areas of your life.  The true Growth Mindset, requires you to do the work.  To look at the shadow side, notices, reframe and heal your fears.  Others the subconscious part of your mind will remain fixed, no matter what you try to do at the conscious level.
How do you do that?
