The Most Limiting Belief There Is “I don’t know what to do”
We all carry beliefs — we have to.
Beliefs shape the way we see the world, how we interpret our experiences, and ultimately how we respond to life’s challenges.
But not all beliefs are helpful.
One of the most common (and most paralysing) is this one:
“I don’t know what to do.”
It sounds innocent enough. It even feels true sometimes.
But when you repeat it often — silently or aloud — it can become the invisible handbrake on every area of your life.
How “I Don’t Know What To Do” Shows Up in Everyday Life
This belief doesn’t always sound the same.
It might look like:
“I want to grow my business, but I don’t know the best way to do it.”
“I need to do something about my health, but I don’t know where to start.”
“My relationship isn’t as great as it could be, but I don’t know how to make it better.”
“I’m carrying way too much at work, but I don’t know how to get the support I need.”
Sound familiar?
When this becomes a daily thought-loop, it leads to indecision, inaction, and ultimately, stagnation.
And the longer you stay in it, the harder it becomes to hear your inner truth — that quieter, wiser voice beneath the noise.
Why We Get Stuck Here
Most of us do get intuitive nudges.
We do have ideas, inklings, and gut instincts about what the next step might be.
But we can’t hear them — because they’re drowned out by:
-
Self-doubt
-
Fear
-
Comparison (or as I call it: comparisonism — yes, it should be a word!)
We wait. We hesitate. We spiral.
Until either:
-
The discomfort becomes unbearable, or
-
A flashy, FOMO-laced offer pulls us into reactive action.
But neither of those are grounded, empowered decision-making.
Try This Instead
Here’s a gentle reframe I invite you to try:
“The deeper, wiser part of me knows a great first step and it is __________________________.”
Pause for a moment.
Breathe.
And let your inner knowing speak.
You might be surprised at how clear the answer actually is — once the noise quietens.
Ready to Take That Step?
If your inner wisdom whispers that getting support might be the next aligned move, I’d be honoured to explore that with you.
Together, we can create the clarity, momentum, and grounded plan your next season requires.
