How to Create Change in Your Life (Even If You’re Stuck or Scared)
There’s something so magnetic about the idea of change, isn’t there?
The promise of a fresh start.
The thought that your life could feel lighter, freer, more aligned.
We read the posts. We buy the books. We highlight the quotes that stir something deep inside us…
“This time, it’s going to be different.”
And maybe for a moment, it feels like it could be.
But then, somehow, we find ourselves back in the same place.
Still yearning. Still stuck. Still waiting for the shift to finally take hold.
Why?
Because even when the longing for change is strong, there’s often a quieter, more conditioned voice in the background that doesn’t fully believe it’s possible. Or doesn’t believe you are the kind of person it happens to.
And that’s the part of us that slows things down.
That keeps us circling in the hope of change, without ever quite stepping into it.
Here’s the truth:
You can create change.
Even if you’re scared.
Even if you’re overwhelmed.
Even if nothing around you seems to be changing yet.
And often, it starts with one gentle, powerful question:
What if this didn’t have to be so hard?
Why change feels scary (even when you want it)
We often sit in what I call the prayer for change. That space of longing for things to be different, without actually doing something different. It’s not a failing. It’s a protective pattern.
Because change activates our nervous system. It asks us to stretch into the unknown. And if your body doesn’t feel safe doing that, even if your mind says “Go!”, it can feel impossible to take the leap.
(If this is landing for you, you might like to read my earlier post: The Prayer for Change.)
The truth about getting unstuck
Getting unstuck doesn’t require you to burn everything down or do something dramatic.
It starts with awareness.
With permission to feel what you’re feeling.
And with the understanding that your resistance might not be laziness or fear, but a sign that your system needs support.
This is why nervous system work is such a big part of what I do. Because once your system feels safer, you start to feel more capable. Of taking a first step. Of holding uncertainty. Of trusting yourself.

5 gentle steps to start creating change
If you’re ready to move (but tenderly), here’s where you might begin:
1. Get honest with yourself.
What’s not working right now? What are you craving instead?
2. Acknowledge the fear.
Fear isn’t bad — it’s a messenger. Write it down. Listen to it. What is it trying to protect you from?
3. Create a pocket of safety.
What helps you feel calm and grounded? Nature, music, movement, breath? Do more of that.
4. Choose one doable step.
Don’t try to fix everything. Just ask: What’s one thing I can do this week that moves me towards where I want to be?
5. Let yourself be supported.
You don’t have to do this alone. Whether it’s a friend, a mentor, a programme, or a coach – support makes change feel possible.
Ready to take your first step?
If the idea of real, grounded, lasting change is calling to you, but you’re not sure how to begin, you don’t need to figure it out all on your own.
This is exactly the kind of work I support people with. Whether it’s shifting unhelpful patterns, building nervous system resilience, or stepping into a new season of life or work, I’d love to help you make your next step feel safe, powerful and aligned.
